NEON ART THE ART OF GLASS AND LIGHT
Neon art consists of artistic compositions in which hand-formed glass tubes become both a drawn line and a source of light. They can create a single sign, an abstract outline, or part of a three-dimensional object combined with coloured panels, metal, or another background selected for the project.
The way such a piece is experienced depends on the interplay of glass, colour, shadow, and surroundings. Light can highlight a chosen part of the composition, while transparent layers or layers set apart from one another change its appearance depending on the viewing angle. That is why it is worth considering the design both with the neon switched on and in daylight.
At PRETENDE, we create custom neon objects and installations, tailoring the fabrication method to the concept and the display location. Below, we explain how to translate an artistic idea into a glass form, plan the colour of the light, and anticipate installation and ongoing maintenance.
